Japan Foundation Japanese Studies Survey – Researcher Directory
The Japan Foundation London has created a Researcher Directory of UK-based researchers in Japanese Studies or Japan-related research as part of the Japanese Studies Survey. We received responses from 117 researchers at the time of publication in 2025. However, this will continue to be updated.
Click here to access the latest Researcher Directory.
Most respondents are based at institutions, however some respondents are independent researchers based in the UK.
The Directory aims not only to display the variety of research being undertaken in the UK but to also be a resource to facilitate networking amongst researchers. Our goal is to include researchers who are not employed at institutions that offer ‘Japanese Studies’ or Japan-related courses, but are still undertaking research related to Japan.
At this stage, it is not a comprehensive indicator of the exact number of Japan-related researchers in the UK. We hope to continue to add researchers to the Directory, so our network can keep growing.
We will update the Directory and have the most recent version on our website.
